What You Must Know

ABOUT FLOWERS & PRESERVATION PRODUCTS BEFORE BOOKING

It's important to understand the process your flowers will go through when preserved in resin art. This art is sentimental and beautiful but comes with some risks. Please read below to set your expectations and be aware of potential challenges. Keep an open mind—what makes this art special is that it’s YOUR florals, preserved in modern art forever, which is much more exciting than letting them dry out and be discarded.

NOTE: FDV Now provides a floral PDF guide for the best/most delicate flowers in the type of preservation when you book. Color Correction is now available for limited flowers and colors. Learn more below.

Flower Preservation Pieces

Drying, Color Change
& Color Correction

This process preserves the color and shape of your flowers, but since they were once living, they won’t look identical to their fresh state most of the time. Moisture gives flowers their vibrant colors, and changes can occur during drying and resin processes (see the resin section for more details). FDV cannot control the final outcome.

For example, including but not limited to...

Pressed Flowers can also lose their shape & color & become brown. This is expected in light colors.

Red flowers - can dry bright red, but mostly dry very dark, burgundy, purple, or even brown.

White flowers - Can become an ivory or yellow hue or even brown. All-white bouquets are beautiful but will likely not stay bright white. If you have an open mind, this is right for you! I recommend adding some color to your floral pieces if your flowers can't be color corrected.

Pink flowers, orange flowers and greenery - can become lighter, darker or brown

Dendrobium orchid- Normally turns brown, especially white. Darker colors preserve best.

Tropical flowers - most hold a lot of moisture and can turn brown.

Some flowers are very delicate and can come apart when being taken out of the drying process:

(include but not limited to):

Mums - Fall apart very easily, in which case are glued back together. If they come completely apart they are impossible to put back together.

Color Correction
FDV understands how important it is for our clients to see their flowers as vibrant as they were on their wedding day. Fortunately, we offer color correction for select flowers and colors, both for flowers preserved in resin and those in pressed frames.

Color correction enhances vibrancy, reduces browning, and tints florals but does not guarantee an exact match to fresh flowers. Certain flowers, like snapdragons, orange orchids, mums, daisies, stock, grasses, and small-bloom fillers (misty, wax, statice), cannot be color-corrected, though they still press well. Pressed flowers may change shape, discolor, or distort after drying. For resin, color correction is only available for white orchids, white calla lilies, and white/blush roses, mainly for trays, but open roses can be accommodated in blocks if noted in the order form. Closed roses cannot be color-corrected. Closed roses are typically placed in square blocks, hexagons, and arches.

Resin Process & Color Change

This is a handmade art. It is not made in a factory to be perfect. There will be imperfections. Please read on to understand these small flaws that can arise:

Resin can change the color of your flowers - Yes! The color can alter after drying but can it can also alter color when touched by resin! This varies from flower & the breed. Resin is a wet substance - just like water touching any material, it changes color (normally darker). This is the same concept. Sometimes your flowers may also turn lighter.

Transparency/browning can occur - you may notice clear spots on the petals. This is known as transparency and is quite common and almost always occurs. These spots are essentially small bruises on the flower's surface that are not visible until they are encased in resin. Additionally, browning can occur during the drying process and/or once the flowers are preserved in resin for the same reasons. These occurrences are all due to chemical reactions – ah, the wonders of science!

Bubbles - FDV uses top-quality resin and does everything possible to prevent bubbles but they can appear & and are out of FDV's control. Resin cures within 12-24 hours and bubbles can arise during this time when resin is not being monitored.

Resin Ambering & After Care

FDV uses the high-quality resin that is used by all professional resin artists in this field. This resin has UV inhibitors which help prevent the ambering of epoxy resin. Please note that resin will amber over time. FDV takes extreme measures to evaluate the temperature of resin throughout the process to ensure that the resin stays crystal clear as long as possible.

Keep your pieces out of direct sunlight & and heat to help prevent ambering!

Please note that white flowers may dry with a yellow hue / yellow flowers' color may reflect in resin, causing the resin to appear "yellow" when it is actually due to the reflection of floral colors. A tip is to request a color background for this to be less noticeable.

Shipping Damage

Shipping issues can and RARELY arise. As much as I would love to have control over how USPS handles & and delivers packages, I have NO control over shipping. Please read my damage policy for more information.

Not right for you if:

You are ONLY getting add-on items and DO mind the overall look of your bouquet not being reflected as only small flowers/petals/greenery will fit in small items. FDV suggests adding a larger piece to your order.
